Espresso Coffee FAQs

What is espresso coffee?

Put simply, espresso is a concentrated method of brewing coffee that uses high pressured water and finely ground coffee beans to create a delicious tasting drink. The process is typically done through an espresso machine.

What grind sizes of espresso coffee are available from Origin?

We have one grind size for espresso. We would always recommend buying whole bean and grinding at home, as all coffee machines have different burrs which can affect brewing parameters. Read our how to grind coffee at home guide for more information.

Yes. All our coffee is available as whole bean.

How does the espresso brewing method work?

Typically, this is done through a home espresso machine although you can get a similar profile when brewing with a Moka pot. Watch our video on how to brew espresso for more information.

What’s the difference between espresso coffee beans and cafetiere coffee beans?

As an omni roaster, our coffee is suitable for all brewing methods no matter what device you use. Coffee blends are often more suited for espresso brewing, due to their approachable and consistent nature.

What does espresso coffee taste like?

The taste of espresso is often described as bold or rich, syrup-like or creamy. The profile should include the perfect combination or sweetness and acidity, to give you a balanced final cup. This flavour can transform depending on the origin or process used, and whether you drink it with additional extras such as milk, that are prevalent in popular drinks like flat whites, lattes or cappuccinos.
