We're open! Visit our Bristol coffee shop. We’re joining Bristol’s exceptional, ever-growing, and diverse community, right in the heart of the city.
Our first coffee shop beyond Cornwall and London marks a new chapter in our story, as we continue in pursuit of coffee excellence. Victoria Street has been designed to create an inclusive space to meet, pause, discover, and share. Working once again with the brilliant interior designer, Megan Sadler, Victoria Street compromises a custom fitted coffee shop, providing a modern and sleek space to explore the latest in our ever-evolving coffee menu, alongside a dedicated training area, designed to take coffee journeys further.
ROOTS IN BRISTOL: OUR JOURNEY
We’ve long enjoyed a relationship with Bristol, a city we admire for its tenacity and spirit. For years, we’ve supported and championed those celebrating local food, drink, and talent; those looking to do business differently, for the benefit of people and planet. As we open Victoria Street, joining Bristol’s vibrant community, we’re delighted to be in such good company. Let us show you around some of the city’s brilliant neighbourhoods and independent businesses.
HARBOURSIDE
From Sunday markets to paddleboarding, there’s no shortage of activity on offer in and around Harbourside. And while the landscape and purpose of this area of the city has changed throughout its history, from the dock where merchants embarked upon trade and travel, today the area is just as busy, offering shopping and exploration. Head over to Wapping Wharf, where bookstores, boutiques, and plant shops reign, making easy work of gifting. Fresh, modern, and cool, here you'll find shopping containers fitted out to bring you an exceptional food experience—perfect for some shopping respite.
STOKES CROFT
Stokes Croft is the melting pot of creativity in Bristol. Packed with energy, colour, people—here the buzz of the city is apparent. We love it because it’s gritty, unapologetic, loud—a shake-up of the senses, with indoor and outdoor spaces covered in bold graffiti art. From unique bars and understated spots, and some true icons, including The Love Inn and Lakota, this area is packed with brilliantly different cool spaces for food, drink, music and more, guaranteed to turn a quiet evening into a memorable one, whether you’re a student, visitor, or well-versed local.
SOUTHVILLE
There’s a good reason that Southville, south of the River Avon, is popular with residents. Loaded with local businesses, this neighbourhood provides laidback weekend energy. At the heart of Southville, which sits next to Bedminster, North Street takes centre stage. A prime area for people watching. Thinking. Pressing pause. Head toward East Street, stopping for a coffee (or pint) along the way. Browse bookstores, shop vintage shops, and take in some theatre, from rich drama to fresh comedy at The Tobacco Factory. While Southville boasts a strong residential presence, there’s nothing sleepy about this distinctive area. You’ll find us kicking back after hours at The Old Bookshop, marking key occasions with dinner at COR, and stocking up on extraordinary wine at Kask.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Folded into the hills of the Southwest of England, Bristol’s identity is shaped by pride and diversity. Built of numerous neighbourhoods, each championed by the people who call the city home, the distinctive areas fuel a strong community energy that makes Bristol such a brilliant place to live and work.
CLIFTON
It’s impossible not to note Clifton, home to Bristol’s iconic suspension bridge, a feat of construction featuring awesome views and historical importance. Clifton is an area of connection, community, and verdant greenery, rich in parks and grand Georgian housing. This large, affluent area of the city presses up against the river to the west, and the popular Whiteladies Road to the east.
WHITELADIES ROAD
Whiteladies Road is a must, whether you’re there to shop or simply appreciate the imposing Georgian architecture. A key shopping spot, with a broad choice of stores, from mainstream and well-known brands, through to the charmingly niche. The Saturday market is a favourite with residents, boasting some of the best local and seasonal food and drink around. Go hungry.
GLOUCESTER ROAD
A vibrant, bohemian vibe from the one of the city’s most popular indie shopping districts. A chameleon for change, this artistic area is renowned for its penchant of creatives who display their work in a myriad of forms. Here, the arts and music scene thrives: stumble upon works by Banksy, as well as live music spilling out from the side streets.
OLD MARKET
Today, the Old Market district is home to shops, bars, and pubs; vintage clothing and antiques; specialist stores, and more, coined the ‘Bohemian Quarter’. As the first part of the city to have been built around the castle, the ‘old’ in the name of this area rings true, and a walk around Old Market will please any history enthusiast with architecture and anecdotes. Once a centre point for Quaker merchants, political debate, Royal visits, and famous musicians, now Old Market is better known for its independent shopping and proud LGBTQ support.
COMMUNITY
Proudly independent, while supportive, multifaceted, and wholly creative: these spaces champion community spirit in Bristol. Expect workshops, collaborative workspaces, and great shopping.
MUD DOCK
Calling the dockside home for nearly 30 years, Mud Dock is rooted in Bristol’s community. Book in for outstanding food, bring your wheels into their workshop or attend a class, browse a stellar line up of bikes, cycling kit and accessories, or even get married in the brilliantly restored harbourside building—this bike shop and café has you covered with all things bike, and beyond.
GOOD STORE STUDIO
Led by three womxn who share a collaborative vision. Describing Good Store as a place for all things beautiful and joyous, here you’ll find brilliant designs, gifts, and ideas. A lifestyle store that brings each of the womxn’s own independent brands together, as well as providing workshops and a studio space that champions the creative community.
ST NICHOLAS MARKET
Known also as ‘St Nick’s Market’, this maze of stalls is without a doubt a longstanding part of the Bristol community, with trading going back to 1743. Situated in the heart of the old city, St Nicholas Markets presents arguably the largest selection of independent retailers. From street food to a fortnightly farmers’ and producers’ market, a trip to the St Nicholas Markets is a regular for many of the city’s dwellers.
CULTURE
SPIKE ISLAND
From affordable studio spaces for local artists, to internationally recognised art centres, Bristol has a long history in recognising and supporting individuals and collectives, making the arts accessible to all.
STRANGE BREW
At three years old, Strange Brew is one of the newest independent venues to join Bristol’s vibrant arts scene, right in the city centre. An innovative use of the space means that Strange Brew seamlessly shifts gears between a live music venue, record shop, café, exhibition space, and DIY bar. Despite its early years, Stange Brew already boasts an impressive archive of events, and a full calendar schedule looking ahead.
THE GOOD BOOK SHOP
This small but mighty bookshop on Church Road is something of a Bristol literary icon, fiercely independent, with a loud and proud presence we love. With a stellar subscription service and an offering of books designed to meet you at the intersection, The Good Bookshop showcases under-represented voices, happily shunning mainstream and shining a spotlight on feminist authors and indie publishing houses.
STORY SMITH
An award-winning independent book shop in Southville with a lively programme of events, a commitment to working across the city with schools, and a resident dog named Roy—what's not to love? Serving up a brilliant collection of fiction, non-fiction, and children’s, alongside coffee, this inclusive space is designed to tempt you to linger a little longer between the books, and it works.
WATERSHED
Situated in a warehouse overlooking the harbourside, Watershed houses an arthouse cinema and café, offering the perfect setting for a full programme of film, music, festivals, and more. The multi- arts venue prides itself on encouraging diversity, a cultural centre, networking space, and social environment that’s warm, inviting, and open to all.
Centrespace
In 1977 a group of artists and craftspeople joined together to find and share a low-rent workspace in the city where they could establish and develop their individual work. Since becoming a cooperative in 1987, Centrespace has grown into a thriving, independent community in the centre of Bristol offering studio space, workshops, events, and gallery space for hire.
LIVING
Bristol arguably leads the way in the Southwest with a lively food and drink scene. Pretension is firmly left at the door, with local ingenuity and community favoured. It’s a spirit that’s shaping a vibrant city to live in, where world-class dining and casual evenings at the pub merge seamlessly.
SOCIETY CAFE
Fellow coffee-heads, Society Café, are always high on our list. With two brilliant spots in Bristol (their newest over on Baldwin St), this family business has made the city home, fitting in perfectly with their focus on quality and community. Bright and modern, the industrial-styled space at Harbourside consistently delivers a brilliant service. Taking great coffee seriously, without any of the outdated speciality attitude, dropping in for a brew here is like catching up with good friends.
KING'S HEAD
Once the coffee shop closes for the day, and someone mentions the word, ‘pub’, you’ll find us over at our neighbour’s, King’s Head, a much-loved, historic spot on Victoria Street. With some of the finest beers on tap and in their fridges, the people behind Good Chemistry brewing took on the challenge of reopening the 17th century pub, which has become a key hangout in the city centre. Grab a spot in their tramcar style seating and work your way through an ever-evolving cask and keg collection from their own creations, alongside other celebrated local and national breweries.
SONNY STORES
Bright, airy, and extraordinary: this restaurant in the heart of Southville brings good vibes to the table, thanks to the commitment and skills of husband-and-wife team, Mary and Pegs. Pegs, who, with nearly 20 years of cheffing under his hat – including time at The River Café in London – has created a culinary experience that reflects the seasons; a daily changing, ingredient-led lunch and dinner menu. Whether it’s for a quick plate of pasta, or a three-course meal with carefully paired wine, Sonny Stores never fails to impress, working closely with local charities and the community, leading the food scene while remaining humble.
THE BRISTOL LOAF
With three locations – in Redfield, Bedminster and Beacon – The Bristol Loaf is firmly planted in daily life in the city. Presenting a thoroughly immersive experience, serving up food and drink with a firm focus on ethics and sustainability. Whether you’re ordering into the office, dropping by to sample their organic bakery, trying out their brunch menus, exploring organic and natural wines, stocking up on local cheese and vegetables, or attending a workshop, The Bristol Loaf covers it all with impeccable attention to detail and quality.
WIPER AND TRUE
Wiper and True’s bright and airy taproom, brewery, and beer garden in the Old Market of Bristol acts as the centre point for their intention of making beautiful and delicious experiences available for all. The taproom – boasting full view into the brewery – offers an open space where you can enjoy an incredible collection of the latest beers, alongside natural wines, and local spirits. With a resident street food set up from local legends, Eatchu, popping by for a cold pint of an evening is sure to turn into a thoroughly enjoyable social.
